GRAMMAR: THERE IS/THERE ARE
SINGULAR:
+ There is a/an ... (a- when the following word starts with a consonant/ an- when the following word starts with a vowel)
- There isn't a/an ...
? Is there a/an ...?
Examples:
There is a pineapple. There is an avocado.
There isn't a pineapple. There isn't an avocado.
Is there a pineapple? Is there an avocado?
PLURAL:
+ There are some ...
- There aren't any ...
? Are there any ...?
Examples:
There are some pineapples. There are three avocados.
There aren't any pineapples. There aren't any avocados.
Are there any pineapples? Are there any avocados?
REMEMBER: If you have an uncountable word, the sentence is always in SINGULAR. Uncountable words are words that you can't count.
There is some water.
There isn't any water.
